Lord Beaverbrook High School: Skills Competitions Success, Thanks to Trico Homes
At Lord Beaverbrook High School (LBHS), we believe in the power of opportunities and the impact they can have on our students’ futures. This year, our Provincial Skills Competition team experienced just that, thanks to the generous sponsorship from Trico Homes.
In May 2024, 16 of our talented students traveled to Edmonton to participate in the Provincial Skills Competition, an event that showcases the incredible skills of high school students in various trades. Competing among more than 700 students from across Alberta in 42 different trade categories was an unforgettable experience, but it wouldn’t have been possible without Trico Homes stepping in to cover our transportation costs when funding was unavailable.
Their support meant that all our students, regardless of their financial situation, were able to attend and focus on what truly mattered: demonstrating their skills and passion. Our team’s hard work paid off, with five of our students medaling across multiple categories, including IT Network Systems Administration, Fashion Technology, and Job Skills Demonstration. It was an experience that opened doors to post-secondary avenues in trades, and we couldn’t be prouder of our students’ achievements.
Two of our students, Lubna Ismail and Avery Barber, even went on to represent Alberta at the National Skills Competition in Quebec City. We’re thrilled to share that Lubna brought home the gold in Prepared Speech, while Avery placed fourth in Job Skills Demonstration. Lubna’s words sum up the impact of Trico Homes’ support best: “Without Trico Homes’ support, I would not have been able to attend the Provincial competitions and ultimately the National Competitions. However, with their support and dedication towards Canadian youths’ futures, I had the opportunity to bring a gold medal home for Team Alberta. Thank you, Trico Homes!”
This experience not only helped our students grow in their skills and confidence but also reminded us all of the importance of community support. We are incredibly grateful to Trico Homes for believing in our students and ensuring that financial barriers didn’t stand in the way of their dreams. Their support has truly made a difference in the lives of our students and has helped shape the future of skilled trades in our community.
Thank you, Trico Homes, for being a part of our journey. Your commitment to supporting youth in trades means the world to us, and we look forward to seeing how our students continue to grow and succeed in the years to come.
