Now more than ever, homebuilders are stressing the importance of the innovative use of space as the pandemic lockdowns create new needs for homeowners.
If the past year has taught us anything about homebuilding, it’s that homebuyers have new expectations of their private spaces. Working from home increased the need for flex spaces, not only in single-family homes where they are expected, but in the multi-family sector as well.

A Dream Home Built With Room to Host Many Guests
Tuesday, January 25, 2022
There’s a reason why Tracey and Gar Garrett, early retirees in their 50s, decided not to downsize when they built their new home in Cochrane.
The couple, who moved to Cochrane in 2021 from their hometown in Barrie, Ont., built a 2,252-square-foot, two-storey home so there’d be lots of room for Ontario friends and family to stay when they came to visit.
….
Choosing the community was the first step. Choosing Trico Homes as their builder was the next step and the easiest one, as they loved Trico’s Fairmont model home. They built the exact model on a 34-foot-wide walk-out lot. With three bedrooms and a bonus room upstairs, the Garrett’s say they chose it for the layout before considering how large it was.
