Trico Changemakers aim to find solutions for complex problems
Tuesday, October 09, 2018
Wayne Chiu has put a million reasons behind his belief “disruption” will make positive world change and create new ways of thinking.
The founder of Trico Homes and the Trico Charitable Foundation (with wife Eleanor) has bolstered that confidence in today’s young generation of “changemakers” finding ideas and innovation to make the world better by donating $1 million to Calgary’s Mount Royal University.
With $500,000 from each of the Trico organizations, and $500,000 from the federal government’s post-secondary institutions strategic investment fund, the Trico Changemakers Studio in MRU’s Bissett School of Business has been officially opened.

Mount Royal opens ‘changemakers studio’ to bring public and private sectors together
Thursday, September 27, 2018
Mount Royal University has opened a space in its Bissett School of Business aimed at connecting startups with non-profits and public sector leaders.
Called the Trico Changemakers Studio, the space will serve as an incubator where business students and startup entrepreneurs can work with the public and not-for-profit sector on social or environmental challenges. For example, studio member Universal Access is working to increase the number and quality of spaces in the city that are physically accessible to people with visible and invisible disabilities. Alberta Health Services’ Design Lab — which works to solve complex health challenges — also has a presence at the studio, as does the United Way, Calgary Arts Development Authority, Generation Indigenous, and a number of artists, activists and small private startups.

Unity in Seton buyer builds on her future
Monday, September 10, 2018
Aman Lall bought her new townhome in Seton because she saw that it had the qualities to play different, but equally important roles.
“It definitely had to be dog friendly,” says Lall, who jokes that her friendly, four-legged pal sometimes “thinks he’s a cat,” and will happily nap anywhere.
Each of the townhomes at Unity have a tandem format attached garage, which was an important factor for Lall, who owns two vehicles. One is a muscle car she uses primarily during the summer months and the other is a sport utility vehicle, her go-to mode of transportation for work.
There’s also a driveway, as well, which will come in handy, Lall says, adding “when family and friends visit, it will be nice to have a little extra parking.”

At 2,303 square feet, the Fairmont by Trico Homes is a well-sized move-up single-family home. But while exploring the model’s show home, it’s easy to think you’re in a floor plan that’s even larger.
Particularly in a home with four bedrooms above grade, that’s not an easy feat.
The two-storey home with a front-attached double car garage, is demonstrated as a show home in Midtown, a community on the west end of Airdrie by Shane Communities and Apex Developments.
