Trico Homes has much on its community plate

Friday, August 18, 2017

One block north of 16th Avenue at the corner of 8th Street N.W., Trico Homes construction crews are already working at street level on a new 44-unit residential building that addresses the need for affordable and accessible housing in Calgary.

Designed by Zeidler Partnership Architects, the Delaney is the first rental-only building by Trico that’s also a private/public partnership project.

Trico has an admirable philanthropic record in the city. For this project in the community of Mount Pleasant, the company worked with the government to address the shortage of affordable homes, especially for people with a variety of accessibility needs.

Focus on Leadership | Trico Homes: 25 years of building on its principles

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

More than 9,000 families have homes and countless memories have been created thanks to a company’s 25-year commitment to building homes with pride to enhance the lives of its customers and the communities they live in.

Strong leadership is a hallmark at Trico, and Wayne Chiu, the founder of Trico Homes, says his proudest achievement was seeing Trico named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed companies for the first time in 2004.

“At that point I knew I could use the success of my business to do good in the community and ultimately create new business opportunities by creating shared value,” says Chiu, chief executive officer, who was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2015.

Spice it up with ease in second kitchen

Friday, July 21, 2017

Spice kitchens are letting domestic chefs season, fry and saute in a separate space, keeping scents behind a closed door.

Gurjinder and Harbhajan Dhillon, who have a 14-year-old daughter, are enjoying the feature in their new home by Trico Homes. They moved to the northwest community of Beacon Heights in Sherwood from Taradale earlier in July.

“Ours is all Indian cooking, so that kitchen is a really good feature because the flavours from the spices don’t go on the clothes and the rest of the house,” Gurjinder says.

When it’s time to move from their starter home to something more spacious, many families want something that will last them long-term.

They look for spaces and home design that will not only work well for four or five years, but give them what they need through many stages of life.

An example is the well-rounded Westfield II by Trico Homes. It’s a 2,224-square-foot, front-drive, single-family model displayed as a show home in Evanston.

Convenience and flexible spaces help bring a custom feel to the Rosewood

Friday, June 02, 2017

When it comes to a home that meets the needs of a growing family, whether it’s bedrooms or gathering spaces, the Rosewood doesn’t miss.

[It] has three bedrooms, with the master bedroom covering the back wall of the second floor, and spacious secondary bedrooms up front.

Convenience is a key to the master bedroom. It’s got a walk-through laundry room attached to its walk-in closet. Once clothes are done in the dryer, they’re only a few steps from being put away. The laundry room is also accessed from the second floor hallway.

But the highlight of the master bedrooms is the ensuite, which is both functional for getting ready for work in the morning and a high-end retreat. There’s a glass-encased shower next to a deep soaker tub, and the vanities are on separate walls, giving both parents plenty of space to themselves.

Growing family finds connections in Hillcrest

Friday, February 24, 2017

Josh and Sharina Zimmer knew it was time for a new home, but to them, staying in Airdrie mattered.

Relocating to Hillcrest — on the southwest corner of the city — helps that, too. It puts Josh a short drive to Highway 2, getting him to Calgary quicker.

The Zimmers bought the Stanley floor plan by Trico Homes, in its four-bedroom option. Josh calls the plan “very functional.”

“There are four big bedrooms upstairs with a bonus room in the middle, so mom and dad have their wing and the three kids have their wing,” he says.

A Beautiful Friendship: Trico Homes

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

For almost two decades, Trico has been heavily involved behind the scenes in Kids Cancer Care’s growth. Trico Homes has been the presenting sponsor of the Shave Your Lid for a Kid® since its inception in 1999.

After sponsoring Ride for a Lifetime for a number of years, when Kids Cancer Care began supporting childhood cancer research, Wayne [Chiu] committed to giving $100,000 a year to research. Trico then became the presenting sponsor of the Don, Joanne and the Coach Golf a Kid to Camp tournament. When Kids Cancer Care began exploring the possibility of running Camp Kindle as a social enterprise, the Trico Foundation gave Camp Kindle its first grant.

Christine says, “They gave us the courage to add the pillar of research to our organization, they gave us the courage to embark on a new signature event, Ride for a Lifetime, and the courage to start a social enterprise with Camp Kindle rentals. The impact of Trico Homes on Kids Cancer Care far surpasses their financial commitments. You don’t get a community without family and Trico is definitely a part of our family.”

Verona Townhomes close to new owner’s work, and to dog walking space

Sunday, November 27, 2016

Being first to buy, [Katherine] McNaught had her pick of Verona’s first release. She chose a corner unit with a walkout basement. Her home is one of the southernmost units that back on to a scenic environmental reserve. The opposite side of the environmental reserve has Trico’s apartment-style Viridian condo development.

As a dog owner, the walkout was appealing because of its quick access to the outdoors. She owns a schnauzer pug cross named Cruz.

Before deciding Verona was where she wanted to live, McNaught made comparisons. She measured the specifications against what was offered at other townhome sites in northwest Calgary.

“The standard package they offered was better than what I saw in a lot of the other places I was looking at for that price,” says McNaught, singling out the granite counters, stainless steel appliances and blinds package as personal favourites.

Trico Homes turns sod on accessible, affordable rental building in Mount Pleasant

Friday, October 28, 2016

A new rental apartment building to be built in inner-city Mount Pleasant will help address the need for affordable and accessible home options in Calgary.

Trico Homes held a sod-turning celebration for its 44-unit Delaney development earlier this month. The building will be located on 8th Street and 17th Ave. N.W., with 12 apartments earmarked as affordable, which means they’ll be rented for 10 percent less than the average market rate through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. Ten of those 12 will be wheelchair accessible.
