The Timeless Appeal of the Townhome
Wednesday, October 11, 2023
Whether upsizing or downsizing, for many, the townhome is about right-sizing. The townhome is the most versatile new home option in the Calgary market these days; it’s stylish, functional, and just makes sense. Most of all, it’s affordable.
New home buyers love the fact that they can get a two- or three-bedroom home for a lower price than is typical for a duplex or laned home, with the extra advantage of a low-maintenance lifestyle.
Calgary builders offer townhomes in a wide variety of styles that work for different kinds of lifestyles. They may be stacked on top of each other; or side-by-side in a row; they can offer single-level living or a three-storey lifestyle; and they might have condo fees and there are those that don’t.

Traditional designs have typically been utilitarian with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths with an open concept main floor and a basement development option. But lately, there has been a noticeable change in the design.

Often the biggest driver in choosing a new community are the feelings it inspires. For Kuldeep and Sukhjinder Mann, the “aha” moment came as they were touring the new community of Homestead, which borders the eastern boundary of the city.
They found their dream home in the Springhill model by Trico Homes, a five-bedroom, three-bathroom front-attached garage home, with a main floor flex room, as well as a main floor bedroom, an upstairs bonus room and the option to add an 800-square-foot, secondary suite on the lower level.
