Trico Homes is proud to celebrate that during this year’s Calgary Stampede—a celebration of community, heritage, and Western spirit—our founder Wayne Chiu and his wife Eleanor are featured in a new campaign by the Government of Canada as part of its Why Immigration Matters series.
The story highlights how immigrants enrich our communities—and how Wayne and Eleanor’s journey from Hong Kong to Calgary has led to decades of impact through housing, philanthropy, and community-building.
Since founding Trico Homes in 1992, Wayne’s vision has always gone beyond building houses. Together with Eleanor, he has worked to create affordable homes, contributed to education and local initiatives like the Calgary Stampede Foundation, and developed innovative seniors’ housing like Trico LivingWell to meet the needs of Calgary’s aging population.
As Eleanor shares in the video:
“This is not just about business. It’s about using the power of business to make Calgary, and perhaps Canada, a better place.”
At Trico, we couldn’t agree more. Our values—Trust, Respect, Integrity, Community, and Opportunity—are rooted in the immigrant experience, in giving back, and in building a better future for everyone.
Immigration matters. Community matters. Stories like Wayne and Eleanor’s show how one journey can help shape a city—and make the world a better place than we found it.
