If you’re like me, you’re constantly thinking of the next awe-inspiring project you can undertake to spruce up your living space. If you’re not, but were always wondering where all those crafty do-it-yourselfers come up with those crazy ideas, we can point you in the right direction.

If you’re like, ‘WHAT?!’ Well, here’s a bit more information.

DIY, or Do It Yourself projects are those that are undertaken yourself, to build, renovate or repair something without the help of a professional. These projects can be anything from building or renovating an entire house to making or refurbishing furniture, decor, art, jewellery or pretty much anything else you can think of.

DIY projects can be a great way to personalize your space, and the best part is that they can be even greater way to do it on a dime. Many of the current, up-to-the minute design trends can be achieved very easily and by spending very little money; some can even be completed using materials you may already have at home.

The first thing you’ll need to do is some research, both to get ideas on what to do and to figure out how to do it.

Aside from Google, I love Pinterest for this; it’s a great avenue for looking up and saving ideas for later. There are tons of other people out there who are undertaking their own DIY projects, and using Pinterest you can see exactly what they’re doing. You can add DIY as a topic of interest, follow DIY bloggers and pinners, and look at what types of projects other people are saving.

Once you have your idea, most pins will include a handy link to an article that will tell you just what to do. YouTube is another great place to find how-to’s. Many amateurs and professionals alike are kind enough to put together very detailed step-by-step videos on how to complete just about any sort of project you can think of. Finally, Home Depot is a great place to go for free classes on how to do anything from building bird feeders to wall papering.
