Wentworth Pointe By Trico Homes

One of the great reasons to live on the Westside is the close proximity to a ton of great restaurants. You can find everything from fried chicken to specialty pizza to authentic Indian food all within a quick drive. Get out there and explore wine bars and Mexican food. But don’t forget the brunch spots. Here are 10 must-try local restaurants you’ll want to know about!

CLUCK AND CLEAVER

If you’re looking to control your “hangry”, Cluck and Cleaver’s fried chicken made from scratch is for you. The crispy, seasoned skin pairs well with the juicy, tender meat. Try it with fresh cut fries and handmade buttermilk biscuits.

FERGUS AND BIX

The craft beer selection at Fergus & Bix — selected locally and regionally — is impressive, if not exhaustive. Get a three-flight sampler so you can try a few different options before you settle on one. Also, they serve brunch — everything from avocado toast to breakfast pizza — on weekends and holidays.

MERCATO WEST

The “Italian table” continues to be the driving philosophy of Mercato West. All their dishes are “famiglia” sized and are intended to share with 2 or more people. They have all your classic Italian pastas — penne, linguine, gnocci — and then some great platters of mixed grill favourites including Mamma Cathy’s house made spicy pork sausage.

UNA ON 85TH

At Una they focus on three things: pizza, wine and being the anchor of a community — “a place for friends and neighbours to gather in a warm and welcoming environment.” There Californiastyle pizza is cooked on stone deck ovens which creates a crispy bottom and a chewy middle. Or you can just go for a couple glasses of vino.

BLANCO CANTINA

Up for some Mexican fare? From personalized nachos to tacos, burritos & churros, Blanco Cantina has you covered. Wash down your Latin-flavoured comfort food with a world-class tequila selection and you have yourself a fiesta! And you can come back the next day for their hangover brunch.

BRAVO PIZZA

Bravo Pizza’s passion IS pizza. Their 35-year old family recipe is perfected by using the freshest of local ingredients. They have all the classics — spicy pepperoni and meat lovers — but they mix it up with a donair pizza and chicken pesto pizza. However, some have said that their lasagne is the hidden gem on this menu.

VIN ROOM WEST

The award-winning Vin Room prides itself on its service and its selection of wines. Canada’s largest wine bar offers 85 wines by the glass making it a perfect place to experiment before buying that bottle. And if that wasn’t customer-friendly enough, they actually deliver for those date nights where you stay in.

BREKKIE

As the name suggests, Brekkie is the brunch hotspot on the west side. It calls itself “imaginative, chef-driven breakfast food, crafted to perfection.” The impeccably designed restaurant has all your classic breakfast fair with just a little more flair — just try the wild mushroom eggs Benedict and you’ll see what we mean.

TOWA SUSHI & LOUNGE

This classic Japanese restaurant is famous for its large portions and its beautiful sushi presentation. You are encouraged to use your hands — the traditional way to eat sushi — which is part of the unique experience you’ll get when you dine here.

YUGA TRADITIONAL
INDIAN KITCHEN & BAR

If you need to get your butter chicken or chicken vindaloo fix, you’ll want to visit Yuga for some real, authentic Indian cuisine. A long list of vegetarian options are also available, including the traditional samosas, vegetable korma and chana masala. Either way, the classic flavours will have you coming back for more.
