While it may be hard to believe with the snow we keep randomly getting overnight, the warm sunny daytime hours tell us it’s spring! We know you must be itching to toss aside that winter jacket and head out into the sun for some springtime fun, so we’ve put together a few of our favourite things to do this spring – all right here in the city.

Hike the Douglas Fir Trail

Right in the heart of the city, the Douglas Fir Trail is one of our favourite urban hikes because you can walk through an old growth forest, but you feel like you’re miles from town! Located within Edworthy Park, take your family for a nice urban hike, then visit one of the many playgrounds or grab an ice cream at Angel’s Café. This hike is 2.2km round trip from the café to the lookout.

Nose Hill Park

Nose Hill Park is one of the largest urban parks in Canada, offering endless options for exploration. Take the kids and make a loop from the 14th Street Parking Lot and visit the Medicine Wheel, the Intermittent Pond where you’ll see a stone labyrinth, and then head up Boulders & Cliffs for a gorgeous view of the city.

Waterfall Valley, Bowmont Park

Bowmont Park is a large natural environment park that lies along the northern bank of the Bow River in the northwest part of Calgary. This short, but pretty trail has stairs, a boardwalk, a spring, a 3-metre-high waterfall, and a great riverside lookout at the end. Located at 85 Street & 48 Avenue NW.

Inglewood Bird Sanctuary

The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a great place to spend a few hours in nature, right in the heart of the city. Covering 36 hectares, the sanctuary is an ecological safe haven – home to over 270 species of birds, 21 mammals, and 327 species of plants.

Glenbow Museum

The Glenbow is now free, thanks to the support of the Calgary Downtown Association. While the museum is undergoing renovations, you can see exhibits at the satellite location, Glenbow at The Edison in downtown Calgary. While free, a timed ticket is still required.

Lilac Festival

It’s been a while, but the 4th Street’s Lilac Festival will be back this year! This free, one-day event happens on June 5, 2022. At the Lilac Festival, there is an activity very every age – plenty of fun for the kids, great new bands, summer patios, and a myriad of vendors
