Trico Homes becomes a Certified B Corporation

  • Friday, June 1, 2012

A Certified B Corporation (B stands for ‘Benefit’) is an accreditation showing that a company voluntarily meets standards of transparency, accountability, and performance.

Unlike traditional corporations that look only to benefit the shareholders, Certified B Corporations are required to consider the impact their decisions have on customers, employees, suppliers, community, and the environment. To become a B Corp, a company must also get a passing score on an assessment of its business practices administered by a nonprofit group called B Lab. As of May 2012, there are over 530 Certified B Corporations from over 60 industries, representing a diverse multi-billion marketplace.

Trico Homes is the first residential home builder in Canada to become a Certified B Corporation.

Why Trico Homes became a B Corp

Our vision resonates with that of the B Corp: to achieve a positive environmental footprint, provide employees with a great place to work, and to build stronger communities. Becoming a B Corporation is a highly effective means for us to connect to the many initiatives of B Corps and to become part of an elite group of corporate, and community leaders.

Trico Homes understands there is more to building better communities than just constructing quality crafted homes, a responsible builder needs to support communities and partner with organizations that develop programs for education, recreation, charity and multiculturalism.

Trico is proud to become a Certified B Corporation and is committed to triple bottom line development while being profitable is important, so is the social and environmental bottom line. A sustainable B Corporation strives to maximize stakeholder value within means. Trico will continue to engage in practices that provide benefits to customers, employees, trades, suppliers and the communities we live and work in.
