The versatility and affordability of the duplex
Thursday, April 29, 2021
Side-by-side home, a semi-detached home, paired home, a twin home. It seems the duplex has as many names as the ability it has in making homeownership dreams come true.
A duplex is a single structure featuring two residences, each with its own private entrance and one shared wall. Each home is individually owned, and unlike townhomes, have no condo fees. It’s twice the nice at half the price.
Trico Homes Marketing Manager, Glenda Schwartz, says there are four main reasons to love the duplex: less money for more square footage; a unique environmental advantage; an alternative to condo living; and a chance to have the perfect neighbour.

Sunny Summit End offers spacious bedrooms for ultimate comfort
Friday, April 09, 2021
When a bedroom is too small, nothing has its own space and clutter builds quickly. A well-sized sleep space does the opposite, creating a more organized, welcoming room in which to start and end one’s day.
Fortunately for owners of the Summit End at Parallel Bloc, this townhome by Trico Homes clearly offers the latter. Parallel Bloc is a development with a private central courtyard in the southwest master-planned community of Crestmont West.
This 1,546-square-foot Summit End, which has an attached two-car garage and dual master bedroom orientation, is one of two show homes displayed here. The dimensions of both bedrooms are well above average. They each reach 19 feet wide.

While a lot of the talk about the city focuses on the inner-city, many future homeowners will still have an appetite for suburban and satellite communities. And as with, everything from groceries to clothes, people are also increasingly comfortable shopping for their homes online. Buying your first home, a voyage of discovery
Thursday, March 04, 2021
You may have heard that Calgary’s residential market is red hot right now. Strong sales have taken many new home builders by surprise (albeit, a pleasant one) and some have even been struggling to keep inventory.
Prevailing circumstances may just make it ideal for anyone thinking of buying their first home to make the jump. Mortgage rates are still extremely low, there are tons of choices available especially for new homes. And if circumstances are forcing you to shelter in place for extended periods of time, wouldn’t you want to be in a place of your own and that you love?
But stepping into such a big life-changing commitment, it’s normal to have doubts. That’s why a lot of homebuilders offer further assurances that can help new home buyers make the decision. We talk to a couple who just bought their first home about their experience, and to Excel Homes and Trico Homes, two local builders who specialize in the first-time buyer market, for some expert advice.
